this book is like fleabag and midnight sun had a baby and its so good. the symbolism in the small things that i actually picked up was so incredible. i have never heard of a vampire that experienced the life of their victims and that was such an interesting detail that gave the story a whole other level. i feel like i missed so much and if i went back and reread i would pick up things i didnt before. her relationship with her mother was so complicated and heartbreaking def don’t recommend for my bitches with mommy issues. i rlly liked this book i just think it didnt capture my attention like i really wanted it to. will fs come back to it later tho

Wow. Wow. And wow again.
I’ve been a fan of vampire based literature since I was 10 years old, first with Twiligh; then classics like Dracula  and Carmella; historical fiction like A Dowry of Blood and Interview with the Vampire; back around to contemporary teen based magazine ones like Vampire Academy and Crave; all the shows and movies you can think of. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, What We Do In the Shadows, Van Helsing, The Lost Boys, heck even Hotel Transylvania. The list goes on til the end of time, but I have never read anything like this.
Claire Kohda writes like a woman unhinged. Like there’s nowhere but up, but she’d rather plummet head first down into the abyss. Writing this lush should be against the law.
Lydia is a woman we all know. She’s inside of us all. She thinks what we think and acts like we act. A vampire, but more human than you can ever put into words.

Crying score: yes, I’ll think about this book for the rest of my life.

A very unique and special book, left me thinking a lot upon finishing it. Definitely has reread potential. I loved the art descriptions in this and that the author managed to create a relatable vampire.

Do not read if you're triggered by descriptions of eating disorders, this book has disordered eating throughout its entirety. Check other TWs as well because it can be upsetting to read and definitely has pronounced horror elements (but the horror isn't supernatural always which I think is amazing and very interesting).

This book managed to do and say a lot under 200 pages! I'm not sure, if I keep thinking about it for longer than I have it might become a favorite. Thought-provoking and emotional books are where it's at!!
