This was actually a lot more fun than I expected! It started a bit slow with the diary parts but once they kicked off, they kicked off! I really liked the narrative switches, as it left me in enough suspense while still making it clear that we weren’t heading for some sudden cliche save or win.

Great concept - he could've done it with just bears or mountain lion and anyone would've liked it. But the format was really effective, and the true stories of animal attacks mixed in were really effective. So good. And the audiobook cast is nuts.

Sometimes you read a book at a specific time in your life and it becomes part of your soul. Every book Max Brooks has written has managed to be one of those books for me. I'm bad at writing reviews for art I actually like, I might come back to this one someday to flesh it out.
