I really enjoyed this read. How Terry Pratchett took on huge issues of culture, colonization, and religion with his brand of humor was masterful. Great read for a young adult but just as good for older generations.

Graphic: Death and Xenophobia

It's been a few months since I've read this, and it wasn't very memorable, so my memory of the book is a bit hazy. Never mind, eh?
I'm probably one of the few people in the world who hasn't read anything Discworld-related (something I should really do something about), but I still enjoyed this book.
The basic plot and characters are good and solid - there's nothing that particularly stands out as genius, though. The only genuine gripe I had was his science-is-better-than-religion message that went throughout the book. Maybe my personal opinion embellished that aspect of the book, but his opinions seemed particularly blatant and one-sided - no subtlety.
Otherwise there's nothing that particularly bothered me with the book: with an author with as much experience as Pratchett you'd hope he knew how to create a good story by now. But unless you're a diehard Pratchett fan, I don't see any immediate need to read this book. I picked this book up at the library because I was after some books to read over the summer. If you're short of books to read, I'd suggest you do the same, but don't rush to make it your number one must-read book.

What a delightful story. It's very Pratchett in the societal issues that come to play, but it is done in the typical lighthearted-but-also-not way that makes it a delight to read.
