My first back to front Manga, and it was good. There were a few things I could have done with out. But a story about Vikings is always fun. The dad was big and strong, and reminded me a lot of the Dad from Game of Thrones. So that was enjoyable to read. The second half of the book just flew by because of how intense it was.

Once in a while you come across a story that just clicks all the buttons. Whether it be story, characters, art work, themes, or the unexplainable feels. Vinland Saga is one of those.
Back in the days, humans saw the world as vast, and the oceans as an insurmountable obstacle, beyond which lay nameless horrors, but with it hope and possibilities.
This tale captures that feeling of being stuck in a never ending downward spiralling cycle of war, and those few to dare to try and reach for something better, something different.
In doing so, it is part of a niche collection of works that make you sit up and take notice, and worse turn around the mirror and force you to reevaluate the life you're leading. And the burgeoning weight of centuries and the countless souls who lived and perished in it's thrall.

So, this is a pretty intense first volume!
Set in the age of Vikings, this stories follows Thorfinn on his quest to avenge his father’s death. As a child, he witnessed his father’s death at the hands of mercenary, Askeladd. Now, Thorfinn serves Askeladd as a member of the man’s mercenary band. A ruthless warrior like his father before him, Thorfinn lies in wait for his chance at vengeance. Will he attain it? Or, is there more to his father’s death and to Askeladd’s actions? Is someone else pulling the strings?
Very engaging to read! Wonderful world-building! Looking forward to reading more!
