‼️ trigger warning : school shootings ‼️

“Once you realize how adept monsters can be at pretending to be real people, it’s hard to ever trust again.”

Multiple POVs with relatively short chapters, but this is book 6 in the series and I would definitely suggest reading the series in order. In the beginning I thought, ok same run of the mill plot lines here. I had thought the series might have run its course. Then when things unfolded 🤯-  I was blown away by the storylines. I did suspect who the “bad guy” was here, but didn’t even come close to touching on the horrifying plot that unraveled. The last third of the book had me staying up very late until I knew everything that happened!!

Lastly, Carrie did a brilliant job on finishing this book. I had no idea that Rachel’s life was taken too soon and Carrie stepped in - until I read the Author’s Note. The voice and characters I’ve grown to love in this series were ever present and I hope you will get to continue on with the series. With that ending, I know there is more to be told!!

Trapper Road is book 6 in the Stillhouse Lake Series that was started by author Rachel Caine, who sadly passed away in November of 2020.

Before her passing, Caine finished book 5, Heartbreak Bay, and left notes and outlines for a continuance of the series, including book 6, Trapper Road. Caine started book 6, but author Carrie Ryan, who was chosen to continue the series, finished it.

I recently wrote a Series Spotlight about The Stillhouse Lake Series - head to my blog to check that out.

I first found the Stillhouse Lake Series after subscribing to Kindle Unlimited - a service I use with the Kindle app on my iPad. As soon as I got into book one, I was hooked. The story of Gwen Proctor and her family is a thrilling one - her husband and father of her kids is a serial killer, and Gina (Gwen) and the kids have to suffer the wrath of the public after his crimes come to light.

Everywhere they go, Melvin Royal haunts them - through his dark and twisted letters, his sick followers who want to punish Gwen for turning her back on him, and the public and families of victims who refuse to believe that Gwen did not know what Melvin was up to.

Despite being found entirely innocent by a court of law, Gwen has no choice but to run. She will do whatever it takes to keep her family safe, which includes frequently changing identities and traveling to new towns and schools.

Each book brings new threats and mysteries to solve, and Gwen handles it all stoically. Carrie Ryan, in my opinion, did a fantastic job continuing Gwen's story. She really got to know the characters - their mannerisms, their dialects - I think that Rachel Caine would be delighted with how the characters continue to grow.

If you are looking for a thrilling, dark, suspenseful series to get into - look no further than Stillhouse Lake!

I look forward to seeing where Carrie Ryan takes Gwen & fam next!

I left this review for the next day and my mind is still spinning. How can you leave us hanging like that? Will there be a book 7? I need to know. Usually, when a book leaves me on a cliffhanger it loses a star. But this book had my emotions all over the place and deserves every star I gave. I wasn't far off for the whodunit, but the book had me second-guessing my thoughts. This book left some questions unanswered and I really hope that this series continues.
