A sci-fi piece that reads like straight out of The Arabian Nights, The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate is a gripping tale involving time travel which will keep you glued till the last word. Guess I've always had a thing for stories that play with time, and the ones which have a layered narrative, with stories within stories.

What I just read...utterly genius work by Ted Chiang. Beautiful, completely fascinating, every word of it.
Every time I read it, I'm awed by it! Truly a masterpiece.

Daniel Faraday (from the acclaimed TV series Lost) once said : "Whatever happened, happened!".
Ted Chiang is a master storyteller. His narrative skills and ideas are nothing short of amazing. I am so grateful to Goodreads for introducing me to such a remarkable author!
In this mesmerizing short story Ted Chiang takes us on a journey through time (no pun intended) ... and space! I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and was satisfied with the (very touching) ending.
