I really enjoyed this. I had already watched the play and film so I knew what to expect but it was still so emotional.

"'cause when there's life there's still hope."

This book was so much deeper than I originally expected, although I should have expected it seeing as I’ve seen the movie dozens of times and consider it one of my favorites. I feel like I missed out on the emotional experience of so many others because I watched the movie before reading, but I cry every time I watch it and teared up a bit during the book, who knew a horse’s point of view could be so moving?
Why does this war have to destroy anything and everything that’s fine and beautiful?

The story is told from the lovely Joey and his experiences of friendship, love, death, and so much more. He was such a remarkable character, I’m not sure there could ever be a character more pure than Joey. Over all, this small book is utterly powerful and elegantly written. I highly recommend this book.

Black Beauty set in a war zone. No particular "villain", even characters who are jerkfaces or on the other side of the war are given depth in the brief time we have with them.

My first Michael Morpurgo book was Kensukes Kingdom when I was 9. I think it was the first time I cried reading. This time, 19 years later, I almost cried again.
Great story. Warming.
