"You wear the hat, you ride the cowboy."
Honestly looking forward to the other books in the series (except for the Cade and Jasper ones because they really grate me the wrong way as characters).

OH MY GOOOOOSH. I'm officially in my cowboy era šŸ˜Ā

I absolutely devoured this. I bought the second book when I was only a quarter of the way through and I'm sure I'll do the same with the third.

Our firecracker heroine is perfect. I want to be her friend. She doesn't take shit for herself or those around her. And I love that she has brown eyes. They deserve main character status, too!

The Eaton family is amazing and I'm so happy to contine their stories. Rhett is the perfect misunderstood hero and I adored him.Ā

I will definitely be reading more Elsie Silver books in the future!Ā

I thought this was a gentle slow-burn romance novel, and it largely read like one, until there was a spice scene that felt uncomfortably male dominant-y to me. Like Cowboy Rhettā€™s force-squirting whipped cream into Summerā€™s mouth to ā€œshut her upā€ and Iā€™m like supposed to think itā€™s sexy? And where on earth did the scene with the doing shots from between her breasts at a bar come fromā€¦ prior to this she had been a professional PR / sports management / lawyer person for the bull rider and next thing weā€™re getting a teen party scene, in which whipped cream features way too much for a bar, and putting on a guyā€™s hat means you have to have sex with them even if you arenā€™t aware of this ā€œruleā€. It almost felt like it didnā€™t match the bookā€™s original tone, so the sudden tone shift really took me out of the whole story.Ā

I had been enjoying the book until that moment and I literally put it down mid sex scene and was like I canā€™t go onā€¦Ā  I no longer care about these two getting together. The uncomfortableness of her having to look after him the whole time then getting dominated (when they are getting together he says ā€˜tell me what you wantā€™ and she saysā€¦ ā€˜ruin meā€™ā€¦. uhhhhh what?) Prior to this is had been a slow burn, constant proximity story about two people falling for each other and opening up - a cowboy at the end of his career, and a sports manager / lawyer at the the start of hers, both with some baggage.
Ā
The other thing I found weird was the female character became responsible for everything of Rhettā€™s - his personal training, his injury management, doing the minute travel arrangements, following him to bars and watching him so he wouldnā€™t get in trouble, living with him. Would a multiple champion bull-rider not have staff other than his lawyer / manager to do that? Also doesnā€™t make sense as to why the owner of the company (her dad) would put a young upstart on her first job to prove herself, with an older cowboy who has a reputation as a casanova, and expect it to be a fair power dynamic and that she can ā€œtameā€ him. A lot of responsibility on her when Rhettā€™s the one losing sponsors and behaving badly.Ā

Iā€™d say I got 2 thirds of the way enjoying it and then dropped it.Ā

okay listen, I loved it but I didnā€™t LOVE it, you know! I think it was so overhyped to me that I was expecting a cross between yellowstone and the edenā€™s series - which it had hints of, but I was definitely expecting a bit suspense šŸ˜… thatā€™s my own bad folks

summer was the perfect FMC for this story!! a city gal with a cowgirl heart, loving the drama and suspense of rodeos and ranch life šŸ„¹ sheā€™s basically me every time I watch yellowstone and google how expensive it is to live on a ranchĀ

rhett was the sexy rodeo bad cowboy with a reputation, and boy, did he live up to the hype!! however, I do think he has a lot to work on emotionally and not a lot of admission and work was done to earn summerā€™s trust šŸ˜¶ I think there was a lot of miscommunication due to āœØ trauma āœØ and inability to place 100% responsibility on oneself, which frankly made me super angry

rhettā€™s actions towards the end of the book were unforgivable and a bit possessive, and I wish summer had stuck to her guns with holding him accountable šŸ„“ that being said, they really were super cute together

I cannot wait to read more about this family because I just want to insert myself in it thank you very much!!!

thank you to netgalley and bloom books for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!Ā
