This was sooooo cute it reminded me of being a kid so hard! I was lucky to have a mom that let me rollerblade in the house and would wear them while doing chores. Omg I remember being ashamed of doing ballet when I was little because all my friends were either boys or tomboys and everyone played hockey and I was secretive about it. I’m currently having a roller skating obsession resurgence so I loved this book. That age is so tough :(

Really enjoyed this book. It is a coming of age story about that point in your life when things stop being simple and start to be grey, and confusing, and difficult (similar to the themes in Pixar's Inside Out.) I cared about Astrid immediately and empathized with her throughout her journey.

I was surprised by my reaction to this book. I knew that it was an award winner and critically acclaimed, but didn't expect to be so affected by it. By the end I was tearing up. A great read not just for pre-teen girls but for anyone who can appreciate what it has to say about friendship, change, and working hard for what you want.

Really enjoyed this one! I read it because it's one of the books I have to booktalk to 4th and 5th graders in my library. Great story, I liked the art, and Astrid's character felt genuine. Also, learned a lot about roller derby.
