I love getting the guys POV from the great scenes like this one :)

Merged review:

God I'm so conflicted. if I'd never read Vampire Academy this book would probably be getting 4 stars.
But I have, so I can't.
I enjoy this authors style of writing and I just wish that she had the confidence in herself to come up with a new idea and rely on her writing style to draw us all in.
I've moved this up a star since reading it because Pure is now out and despite myself I really want to read it so I can't in good conscience leave it at a 2 star!

I figured since all of my new editions of the Covenant series have come in, it was the perfect time to reread this series.  This year (2024) has definitely been the year of Jennifer L. Armentrout books for me.  I've reread so many of her series this year and I've easily read over 20 of her books and along the way, I have fallen back in love with Jennifer L. Armentrout as an author.  The Covenant series is one of Jennifer L. Armentrout's older series and I'm not exactly sure how many times I read it since I'm pretty sure the first time I read it was before I kept track of all my reading but I know I haven't read it as much as some of her other series.  I really enjoyed rereading this book but I don't think I would rank this series as high as others from this author.  It is pretty fast paced, it draws some inspiration from Greek gods although the inspiration isn't as heavily featured in this first book compared to the other books in this series and the spin-off.  It does give me a little bit of teen drama vibes and some references and language may be a little dated now but it definitely fit in perfectly with the books that came out in the 2010's (aka my teenage and young adult years).  I like Alex and Aiden but out of all the couples that are featured in Jennifer L. Armentrout's books, I'm not sure they would rank very high compared to some others.  Overall, I did have a good time rereading this book and I'm sure I'll have just as much fun rereading the rest of the series.

Eh. Has some interesting elements, but some really boring and predictable resolutions. Looking forward to whether book two can redeem it and subvert some stuff!

2022 Read: I don’t remember Alex learning about her elevated status so early on but it’s been a while since I read this book. The audiobook was interesting. I learned that I’ve been mispronouncing Apollyon wrong all these years. And the narrator gave Seth a very interesting accent that I enjoyed. I look forward to continuing with the series and eventually getting to read Sentinel for the first time

2013 Read: Good gods that was an incredible book. I didn't want to put it down which explains why I'm writing this review at 5:30am. I probably would've finished it faster if I hadn't been doing other thinks like skyping with friends and rewatching Merlin on Netflix but good grief that was awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on Pure.
