I read this in anticipation of the forthcoming TV adaption (“Lucky Hank”). I really loved it! It was funny and poignant, the story enjoyable and the characters well-drawn. It suffers a bit from late-90s anti-PC stuff but it’s not too insistent about it. I read many passages aloud to Sarah who laughed in recognition 25 years later of campus politics and academic life. With the caveat that some bits will elicit eyerolls, I really do recommend it. Also toward the end of the book a racist character uses the n-word.
I heard Bob Odenkirk’s voice in my head while reading this; I don’t know how the show will be but the character, at least the version in the book, is a perfect role for him.
