Great story about Australian families. Captured really different characters well. I hear the book divided readers a lot in taking on a side of the plot line. I am yet to actually meet anyone who felt differently to me unfortunately. I sympathised with the adulterers and abusers more than I am comfortable with it turns out.

So torn by this one. Almost all the characters are horrible human beings. It was an engaging read though and I kept reading. I feel this author could write better books.

Excellent weave of multiple viewpoints that culminate in a satisfying payoff.

Rashomonesque, but unlike Rashomon, the multiple viewpoints complement rather than contradict each other. The end result isn't a confirmation of something we already know — that truth is subjective — but an exploration of it, opening it up for interpretation and discussion.

The book itself is well written but its just a chore. Every character is absolutely vile including the four year old who gets slapped. With no redeeming qualities to be found, its incredibly difficult to feel anything for the characters which sorely impacts on the reading of the book. I'm sure we are meant to be disgusted by the characters but its exhausting and it doesn't really mean anything? I didn't hate it. I'm not sure I enjoyed it. I'm glad its over.
