Quality thriller.

I was nervous this would be too over the top sci fi but the balance is actually spot on. If you like spy stories, criminal minds, and badass ladies this is your book

Fresh Concept Fueled by Action and Motive

Rice offers a modern-day possibility of a semi-vigilante feminine hero created by science combined with a traumatic past yet an unsullied moral code. The plot is appropriately paced and leaves plenty to build on in future installments. The stakeholders are interesting, dangerous, and unpredictable, leaving the fate of the series open to multiple opportunities. The main theme of the book seems to involve the female struggle to overcome male attempts at dominance and it's annoying that the even the good male characters in the book thwart the protagonist's autonomy until her physical strength outpaces theirs. In addition, the book has no other developed female characters. The characters are likable, but not seriously complex or lovable at this point. I wouldn't mind reading the next book to see where it goes.

This story was not what I was expecting at all! To start off with, the characters are amazingly well developed and transform continuously through the entire story so that you feel like you are growing with them.

Trina was kidnapped by serial killers when she was only a baby and was raised on their farm until one day when she was 7 and the authorities rescued her from this family. Thankfully, she was never witness to any of the horror's they committed, but is altogether still scarred by the life experiences she has now had.

Now she is an adult and has changed her name to Charlotte; trying to start a fresh new life that is gripped by terror and fear for those out there that might want to hurt her - not to mention the psychopathic stalker she has. Thanks to her "Psychiatrist", Dylan, she starts to find a way to face her fears and move on with her life. But there are a lot of risks involved when you face down your darkest fears - face to face.

Rice does an amazing job keeping the story line constantly engaging and introducing a lot of supporting, but useful, characters throughout the whole story. Eventually, Charley is able to gain her own confidence back, live a life less ruled by fear, and develop real social relationships again.

This book is about the human need for socialization, our ability to face the things that frighten us and hold us back from our potential, as well as some kick-butt superhero fun!

Bone Music

A tense and compelling read.
Abducted as an infant by serial killers, and raised by them until they are stopped by the police, our main character - now called Charlotte - is a tough cookie. When we first meet her we see her struggling to deal with her life. When she is offered a new drug by her psychiatrist it has unexpected side effects and we are launched into an explosive book.
It’s hard to talk about this without giving essential details away. Suffice to say, this character and her struggle to reconcile herself to her past is an interesting one. We have a motley crew of people from her past on hand to help her, and we are quickly caught up in a story far stranger than any we may have imagined.
By the end I was desperate to know more and am looking forward to seeing how Charley develops.

Not bad some parts flew by, whereas others seemed to drag. By the end I was wanting it to wrap up.

This was a well written story and a good premise. Character development was also very good, but for whatever reason by about 75% of the way through I was looking forward to reading a new book.
I can't put my finger on why I lost interest in this. The quality was solid all the way through, but eventually I just didn't care that much how it ended.

DNF
I tried. I really tried. I was pretty excited about this book when I started - the premise was super interesting and I was keen to see where it went and it... went in a way I really didn’t expect or like. I wanted to give up as soon as the ‘twist’ was revealed about a quarter of the way into the book, but I persisted for a few more chapters. Then it got to the point when I was just annoyed and frustrated with the whole thing. I very rarely quit a book (sometimes a book will take me YEARS to read, but I almost never quit!) but I’m putting my foot down with this one and I’m not finishing it. Disappointing because I feel like it had such potential, I’m annoyed I hated the direction it took!

I wanted to love this book.  I loved the concept.  I loved the cover.  However, this one fell flat for me.  I am thinking I may have picked this one up at the wrong time.  I still have it on my shelf so I am thinking I will try it again later.

Loved the beginning, hated everything else! The characters seemed so naive and their dialogues made me cringe. the concept is fabulous but I hated the ending. Most of the book read like a cheesy YA thriller. So disappointed! I almost DNFed it but just continued (mostly skimmed the last 30%) because I dragged myself through 70% of it hoping that the story would redeem itself eventually but alas! that didn't happen.
