I love theses short stories about Reacher. Excellent quick reads, good palate cleansers between heavier reading.

I dislike Child Reacher novels almost on principle, and this one is no exception. His family was present but absent, ticking off boxes but giving us no real insight into their characters. The main mystery has an obvious solution, and Reacher's solution was creative, but it didn't feel very realistic. It's a waste of time that kept me reading but I won't recall anything of this story by the time tomorrow comes around.

Not recommended.

A short story about Jack Reacher as a boy. A quick read. Nothing wonderful.

The Second Son by Lee Child was my first Jack Reacher read. I saw the movie and really enjoyed it, and the book did not disappoint. This short story takes us back to when Jack was 13 years old and living with his family in Hawaii. It gives the reader some background on how his attitude and strength developed as a teenager.

I usually hate short stories, especially from authors I really like. I don't feel like the short story genre is long enough to pull me into the story or the characters and I generally feel like it's a waste of time.

However, this one was fantastic. I think part of that is due to the fact that I've been reaching Jack Reacher books since the beginning and I feel like I really know the characters and history really well. This short story takes place in Okinawa on a Marine base when Reacher is like 13 years old. The story is glorious and just shows where this character came from--and how smart he was from the start!

I liked this book and thought it was a decent short story if not a bit farfetched in Reacher's abilities at 13 years old.
