Feels like an anime style adventure.  Deep in folklore and a wonderful story-telling vibe.  This book could be a feminine rage kind of tale as well - as when I woman gets a voice or desires she becomes a “demon”.   In all this was a wonderful story, had fun characters, interesting / through-provoking concepts, and just enough plot to push the story on.  I felt it stayed on-pace throughout, tho the time travel lost me at first, but it made more sense as the story moved.

This was a sweet and wholesome hero's journey, with good feminist and trans/gender queer messaging. I also loved the backdrop of East Asian mythology/folklore rather than the "medieval Europe" style fantasy that is all too common.
