Several times during the course of reading this book I said to myself "this is stupid." This book doesn't really go anywhere and it doesn't really have anything profound to say either. No great character study. I heartily do not recommend. I think I tried another Emma Straub book and that was a DNF for me so don't think I will be reading her again anytime soon.

Slow prose but picks up and you definitely feel emotionally invested in the characters. Finished strong.

What a delight this book was! Emma Straub created a cozy little town in Clapham and filled it with characters that were flawed yet easy to love. It didn't take long for me to be fully invested in the Strick family, and I'm sad to be finished with their stories.
Straub's writing is light and approachable, sprinkled with so much wisdom and truth about parenting, growing up, and being part of a family. There are some serious topics in here, but she handles them all gently and respectfully.
This book is a great antidote to the scary moment we're living in. I would highly recommended to anyone looking for a comforting escape.
