So there was a lot more backstory on this volume about Elias and that's all thanks to Chise trying to figure out who is behind some brutal murders in a nearby church. Her surprising quick use of magic is also surprising to read about as the author hasn't mentioned much about sleigh buggys which was mentioned in an earlier volume but it looks like we're going to learn more about it as Chise does.
I liked the interaction between Chise and Elias as it develops because it shows both of them at the early stages of a young thing - not yet friends, but not a relationship - more like two kids learning new things.

Moderate: Animal cruelty, Animal death, and Blood
There is mention of animal cruelty and death so while not depicted, it is foreshadowed and there is blood.
