After reading this, you are allowed to ask for only two things: love & gelato.

3 stars on the YA scale. Cute, clean YA romance. Lina is sent to Italy to live with Howard after her mom's death from cancer. She's given the journal her mom wrote in when she was a student living in Florence, seventeen years ago. As Lina reads she discovers more about her mom, Howard, and why her mom wanted Lina to come to Italy so badly.

Due to circumstances, Lina is sent to Italy to live with her father, whom she never knew existed for the last 16 years. And thus, begins her emotional journey of self discovery, of her mother and of course, of love.

This book makes me want to go to Italy and stuff myself silly with gelato and pizza. It makes me want to go and discover all the piazzas and statues and a certain secret bakery. The description is that vivid, down to the smell of the city of Florence. The author definitely delivers in terms of taking her reader down to the street of Florence, venturing into Ponte Vecchio and devouring gelato, four scoops and all.

And to be young and in love? Ahhh...

“You know, people come to Italy for all sorts of reasons, but when they stay, it's for the same two things."
"What?"
"Love and gelato.”
― Jenna Evans Welch, Love & Gelato

This is possibly one of the cutest books I've ever read. I loved the journal extracts throughout and I'm dying for a holiday to Florence!

⭐2.5ish
i really didn't like the mcs. these two really used two people in order to bring themselves together and think it's just gonna fix everything bc they fell in love. it's not worth falling in love if you're hurting people along the way. this book would've been the best, and i had so much expectations but it greatly disappointed me. i loved the concept though, and italy will definitely gain a tourist (me) soon.
