My Review

Getting back into this world was so much fun. I adore and love the world that Scott created. To me, it was filled with great action, intense suspense, enthralling characters, and moments that left me on edge. Though I didn’t remember much of what happened in the first book, it wasn’t long before I was swept away.

The characters in the book are all intriguing. I felt that Scott really did create a wonderful and diverse set of characters. Each brimming with their own uniqueness. I love that they felt a part of the story. Truly feeling like a part of that world. From the minor characters to the main characters, even the ones that got on my nerves, I enjoyed them all.

Tella, well, I enjoy her character quite a bit. I love that she, even after everything she has gone through, still has been able to retain some of that girly girl. I mean, come on, deep down we all love glitter and makeup, even when trying to fight for our lives. I love that part of her, but what I loved more was this girl’s heart. Tella has a fierce, powerful, caring, and strong heart. Watching her interact with every character and Pandora really showed how caring she was. But she's also fierce in her beliefs as well. How she was determined to help, to not let the game turn her or the people she got close to. I admired that.

Guy is silent, fierce, and a very strong character. His personality, his strength and stern nature seeped off the pages. The way the Scoot represented this character made me really love him. I loved that he wasn’t the talking kind of guy, he is an action kind of guy. But he had his moments that really melted my heart. What I loved about him so much was that in this book we got to see him grow, really be challenged and see him fumble at times. His growth really came through. Watching him learn to trust Tella, even step aside and let her take charge made me proud of him.

Tella and Guy are a great balance together. I couldn’t get over that while reading the book. Yes, they do struggle in this one, the world they are in leaves no time for lots of talking to figure each other out and where they stand, but despite everything they were able to find each other and understand each other. It was enjoyable watching them grow and develop through everything.

I also have to mention the Pandoras in this world. I love the idea of the animals, the strange things they can do and the connection they develop with their partner. It was an aspect I enjoyed so much. The worlds that I was also introduced into felt very much real and very scary. I loved the dire I felt while reading. I felt like I was racing for my life at times.

I’m a detail oriented reader, so the only thing I did want more of was more detail. More movement between the action of the characters and the changing of scenes. I enjoyed the fast pace of the book and how everything unfolded. It was really gripping and intense. The character growth was so amazing and one of the best parts of the book as well. And there were a few twists I didn’t see coming either.

Salt & Stone was an intense, action-packed, and a heart-wrenching read. And the ending left me craving and desperately wanting to know what is next for Tella and Guy.

This book was a vast improvement over the first installment. It's more action-packed, the plot is more fast-paced, and the main character's less annoying.

The Pandoras were a very nice touch to what otherwise might have been an exact copy of The Hunger Games. I admit, there are similarities, but there are also a lot of differences that make this book unique.

Although the series may not have kicked off with a great start, I think it sure does progressively pick up as you read through.

I liked Salt & Stone a lot more then Fire & Flood. Correction: I loved it. I've enjoyed all of Victoria's writing so far and I knew she wasn't going to disappoint in Salt & Stone, but crap. I am floored right now.

Just when we thought the people behind the Brimstone Bleed couldn't make it any worse, they do. Tella and the gang must make it through the last two legs of the Brimstone Bleed, ocean and then the mountain. Both equally challenging, dangerous, and deadly. Filled with action, adventure, heart break, and battle Salt & Stone leaves you questioning if we really knew anything about the Brimstone Bleed at all.

During the ocean leg of the race, a few new contenders joined the gang. Willow who has a Rat as a Pandora, Cotton with a Bull, and Mr. Larson with an Alligator along with a new Pandora that Tella took on: an Iguana named Rose. Tella struggles to gain trust in these new people, all while trying to prove to herself to Guy. Tella really toughened up during this novel, she took the bull by the reins and took control of the situation. I liked Tella so much more in this one then in Fire & Flood. She has a bit of a whit to her, as well as being strong, determined and stubborn in all her tasks. Tella is extremely dedicated to her brother, who she is there for. She is also very clever for figuring out the new color bracelets that each contender was given and the betting.

Guy and Tella are both stubborn and determined, put them together and they were do for an explosion eventually. Guy wants Tella to be safe, and it seems to be that he thinks she is helpless. Tella knows she doesn't need Guy and she can do this on her own with out him. Now mix this in with the kiss from Fire & Flood, complicated emotions and different agendas and when have a love interest who probably are going to kill each other. That doesn't mean there wasn't a fair share of steamy scenes though. Tella and Guy do come to see eye to eye in the end though.

I could probably talk about the Pandoras all day. They are all unique with different personalities and abilities. Tella seems to be a magnet for them, they seem to listen to her more then their own contenders sometimes. I've grown to love Monster (a bear) and Madox (a wolf) a lot. In Salt & Stone we are introduced to a Bull who can breathe out red fumes that will knock you unconscious, an Alligator who lets off intense heart, an Iguana who glows in the dark, and a rat who stabs its victim with its tail to make them ill (Though I am a little unclear about that still.) I would love to know where the idea for the Pandoras had come from.

Victoria didn't skip out on the plot in Salt & Stone at all. I actually think it was better done this time around. Everything is so much more intense as the race is coming to an end, characters start to change, the stakes are higher. Everything is amped up to the extreme now. Victoria packed this book with a ton of death, action and heart break. The race is concluded in this book, there is a winner. But I highly doubt this series is over yet. There is still so much unanswered and the ended, though bittersweet, was open ended.

Salt & Stone is probably my favorite sequel in a while now. I didn't fall short of anything. Even though it is still early in 2015 this book has made my list of the best of 2015. I am not sure if there will be another book in this series. I think there will be, and I cross my fingers there will be.

This was the second installment of the Brimstone Bleed series and it was just as page turning as the first. I enjoyed the progression of the story and some of the twists and turns along the way.

The thing that, again, let this novel down for me was its sheer similarity to the Hunger Games trilogy. I also felt the book was left open for another installment but this was written in 2015 and nothing else has come yet.

Overall, based on these considerations, this novel gets 3 stars from me.

Another really great addition to a stellar series that, after this ending, NEEDS to continue!! I really loved the new characters and Pandoras, the settings, and the character development. Though, having said that, I have to say that Tella made me a little crazy in the way she treated Guy. MINOR SPOILER: Wanting to do her own thing and not rely on him so much? Okay, great. Thinking he desperately needs to tell her he loves her after he crawls out of the ocean half alive and falls to his knees to hold her and say that thinking about her saved his life? Not so great. I think that memorable moment made it pretty damn clear that he cared about her as more than a friend. END SPOILER. Still, the novel was fantastic. I really, really enjoyed it and am hoping there will be at least one more book to wrap it up. The ending was pretty intense, and I need to know how everything will close out.

I've had this book waiting to be read for a while. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I have no idea why it took so long to read this one.
Salt & Stone follows Tella and her group of friends as they traverse and ocean, and a mountain, in thier aim to win a cure for thier loved ones. I loved getting to see the contenders work together to achieve a goal, seeing them pushed to the limits and trying to work as hard as they can.
Tella was someone who I loved, not only with her friendliness towards others, refusing to abandon them, but also with her teammates Pandoras.
I demolished this book, I could not read the pages fast enough, and although I am extremely sad over what happened near the end, I am also hanging on the cliff edge, wondering if we will get closure on this series and find out what happens in the end.

Synopsis:
Tella is a normal Teenage girl but her brother is extremely sick with a mysterious illness!! One day she get a box sent to her room and in the box is an ear piece and there is a recorded message on the ear piece saying she is invited to participate in the Brimstone Bleed! The winner of the Brimstone Bleed will win the cure for any disease! So of course Tella want to compete in this race to save her brothers life! There are 4 legs of the race: Jungle, Desert, Ocean, and Mountain.

What I liked:
I didn't like Tella, I LOVED her!! She was hilarious and had such personality! I have to give props to Victoria Scott for being able to make Tella personality shine through words it can be hard to do sometimes!

In the race competitors are given an egg and sometime during the first leg of the race the egg hatches! Inside the egg is an animal called "pandora" each pandora has a special power of some sort for example a fire breathing lion or a teleporting rat! Some pandoras have more than one power and they are usually designed to help the competitors survive the race! I cannot tell you what is in Tella's egg because of spoilers but it is pretty cool!! Anyone who like pokemon will get some nostalgic feels from pandoras! I loved that Tella was one of the few competitors that treated her pandora as a living thing and not just a tool to help her win!

There is a hint of a love story in this book (it's YA guys what were you expecting) BUT it is not that mushy gushy insta love romance so that was relief!! Throughout the race Tella is of course constantly thinking of her brother and that really hit home because I have two brothers myself who I would do anything for and Tella overall as a character is just incredible relatable!

What I Didn't Like:
While Tella's personality is just amazing sometimes she struck me as a bit self centered with some of the things she said and too focused on her looks and but then she did things like cutting of her hair (because a fellow competitor pulled on it) in order to give herself an advantage in the race which obviously means she doesn't care about her looks as long as she wins and that was pretty contradictory and it just didn't make sense. Those couple details I do not think were thought out well by the author but overall it did not affect the book all that much and it was still an awesome read!

Wederom heb ik erg genoten van het verhaal, maar ik vind het einde wel echt heeel erg open! Zo jammer dat er geen vervolg komt want je zou hier nog zoveel meer mee kunnen doen!

Th is sequel keeps up with book 1s action along with more intrigue, new friendships, same old enemy but the stakes are higher and the games crueler.
in a nutshell I loved how Tella was impulsive, trying not be a hapless girl like she was in the jungle but not everything turns out well. And it was amusing ride watching her stumble and at times embaress herself, while others wondered what possessed her.
The only downside is by the time she actually toughensup its towards the end and we don't get enough of it.
I loved the side characters and the Pamdoras.... I don't think Ive ever rooted this bad for side casts as much as I did here.
Oh Guy, we never get enough of him and I think that's what makes him intriguing, even when when he is usually silent through out the book but shines out anytime he speaks.
Harper's character growth was amazing, every ups and turns we took getting to know her.... Loved the depth given to her.

And the falling point, We don't get nearly enough of Brimstone Bleed, we get a rough history then we catch glimpses of how they are judging this race.... And then we come to an abrupt stop.

I understand book 3 might not be as much of a success since there will lesser action and more of espionage and revolting but I would've like to know how Brimstone ends... Or atleast the plan.... Sigh.... I'm too late to this party anyway.
