I know that the whole deal about this book is the use of contemporary language/slang in a historical/fantasy setting and I will admit that it took me longer to get used to it than I expected and I did almost DNF very early on because of it. However, ultimately this book offers an adventurous plot that rly clips along, a sexy possessive demon, a band of merry misfits, a noble if reluctant heroine, and hot sex, so it's definitely not bad!

I think Lemming does good work with the reluctant adventurer trope in Cinnamon, whose desire to NOT be the main character is pretty charming and relatable. I did find her narration a bit grating at first but once you settle in to the tone this book has a lot of fun to offer - she grows on you. I liked Fallon a lot of but of course I did. I appreciated that the world building is so well-intgrated into the book that it's not boring at all, and you get just the right amount of it. There's a little more telling than showing going on with characterization than I would prefer, but overall I think it's well-handled and well-balanced.

It's ultimately not really my cup of tea, but I would still read and enjoy the rest of the series, so take from that what you will!

Appreciated the diverse cast of characters but not much else. The author was clearly going for silly and funny, but the way it landed for me was mostly cringey. The humor just wasn't my cup of tea and I felt like the author was trying too hard.

"That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon" is the whimsical introduction to the Mead Mishaps series by Kimberly Lemming. The book follows a spice-farming village dweller, Cinnamon, whose life takes an unexpected turn after a tipsy encounter with a demon, sending her on an adventure that makes her question the world she has known.

Searching for something light, cozy, and perhaps a tad spicy to read after finishing a horror short story collection, this book not only met but exceeded my expectations. The protagonist, Cinnamon, or Cin, is a delightful mix of wit and charm, and her banter with Fallon, the rogue demon isn't just good; it's the kind that had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. The spice level, both in terms of humor and sizzling moments, is perfectly balanced, earning it a solid 4 on the literary spice scale. (Be aware of trigger warnings!)

Lemming weaves a compelling plot with well-developed characters. At its core, this is a fantasy adventure with a wonderfully sarcastic heroine and loveable side characters on an engaging quest that kept me hooked and definitely wanting more. Can't wait to dig into the rest of the series whenever I am in the mood for a lighthearted, spicy, and entertaining read.

Really cute and funny, poking fun at the fantasy romance genre without being petty or disrespectful about it.

A girl from a sleepy bayou town stumbles upon a demon while walking home one night drunk from festivities and saves him from a rockslide. Adventure to defeat a witch controlling her town, and sexy shenanigans ensue.

A hilarious subversion of the classic villain and damsel dynamic. Cinnamon is just a simple spice farmer when she happens across a demon in the woods after a heavy night of drinking, but the adventure that she embarks on isn't exactly what she's heard in the stories (or any of us, for that matter!) The book rockets through to the climactic ending, and a happily ever after of an unexpected kind. A delightful read and definitely an author to watch!
