Well, I can't deny that this book frustrated me a lot. There were some stories that were okay, but or I didn't like the main character or the ending ruined it. Everything was so tragic and depressing and well, boring. In every story something bad had to happen, it just became ridiculous. The only story I genuinely liked was 'Le plus beau livre du monde'.

Wanda Winnipeg: ☆
C'est un beau jour de pluie: ☆☆ (only because of the sweet husband)
L'intruse: ☆
Le faux: ☆
Tout pour être heureuse: ☆☆
La princesse au pieds nus: ☆
Odette Toulemonde: ☆☆
Le plus beau livre du monde: ☆☆☆

I'm still going to give it one star because I really struggled through the book and ranted to my family about it haha!

I just finished this book and love how I feel. Short, beautiful stories to share. ❤️

This was a lovely, lovely collection of stories. I loved them all (except for the last one), and especially "Odette" which (of course) made me sob. I saw the film and I enjoyed it but I really think the novel is so much better and so much more touching. This was my first by Schmitt and it makes me want to grab his other books and read them all. His language is easy (no problem to read in the original) but not boring and not overly simplistic, his stories are all very entertaining and with a twist, and some of them are real pearls and make you want to stop and think, and that's something I appreciate most about any book.
