WOW! Zanetti really started her new series with a bang! From the very first sentence, I was completely gone in the story. Pippa and Mal were both quite broken - but not completely. And while they not only seemed very different, they also appeared to be on different sides of... something.
Excitement, suspense, romance, hotness, action, a horrible villain and a team of misfits fighting for good filled Hidden with all the good stuff!

A German shepherd with legit personality and a bad ass military guy who keeps a live kitten in his pocket. The story is good too.

I really enjoyed a lot about this book. I enjoyed the world-building. I enjoyed the quirkiness of some of the characters. I enjoyed some elements of the romance.

What I felt missing was a fully explosive scene where there was a real reckoning for the undercover lies and such. I also was a little uncomfortable with the consensual roughness/spanking ONLY because of the context of abuse.

But I'm definitely in for book 2. So... there we go.

This is book 1 in the Deep Ops series. It shows the founding of an off the books federal organization filled with misfits who have left other positions in law, the military, FBI, and even prison. They are an interesting group of characters who somehow end up fitting together to a productive team. This book is about Malcolm West. An ex detective who specialized in undercover ops. Though he may have gotten in a bit too deep with his last op. He joins to team when his new neighbor Pippa turns out to be more than what she seems. They need him to get in with her as well as the cult for which she may or may not be about to execute a terrorist event. Right off the bat, both Pippa and Mal notice each other. And they both realize they have secrets. But they fall pretty hard and fast for each other, despite their hesitance to trust anyone. Somehow they trust each other. Until their worlds collide.

A solid start to the series. This was fun, tense, exciting, and spicy. I’m a fan of romantic suspense and this one checked the boxes. Not perfect, but I liked it and I’m giving this a rounded up 4 stars.

Not as good as I hoped it would be, though I thought the pets were cute! May or may not continue with the series.
