This books is probably one of the best books I have read this year. The strength that the characters find throughout the story is astounding. The author has done a fantastic job of world and character building. I couldn't help but cry at times while reading.

This book was too slow at the start. I had to ask my mother if it was worth finishing. She said it picks up and she wasn’t wrong. Great story with heartfelt characters.

This book reminded me so much of Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. This heartbreaking time period and the stories that come out of it are haunting and I think Kristin Hannah managed to capture that and imbue a sense of beauty in this story telling amid the horror and atrocity. This book is not easy, but it is beautiful.
