A solid reference resource, more useful for its detailed bibliography and description of stories and issues than its analysis of the industry. Nolan comes from the perspective of a long-time reader and collector, which is useful.

I discovered this book while researching comics for my podcast. I found it to be very informative, if a little repetitive at times. This is a good comprehensive review of the history of romance comics, which had their heyday in the late 1940s through the 1950s. They did continue into the sixties and onward, but as a shadow of their former selves. The Comics Code did a number on a lot of the more interesting possibilities for the romantic stories.

I actually bought this book because I met Michelle Nolan while we were digging through long boxes for romance comics at Emerald City Comic Con. Great overview of romance comics as a genre.
