There's a species of bad faith that animates many literature-of-transgression projects, one more repulsive than any of the acts depicted in them. That is, the author writes something indefensible, then lets the audience come up with their own defenses for it so they don't have to bother trying. I don't think that's what Despentes had in mind when she wrote this, but the problem is, that's absolutely how it comes off, and it undermines most everything else of interest about the book.
