this book affected me deeply, i felt a very deep understanding of & love for sunday. there were many traits of her autism that oppose mine, but her thought processes and the way she approached the world.. maybe the most connected i've felt to an autistic character ever. maybe the only thing i could've asked for was for sunday and david to talk again after the events of the book, but i also understand why that didn't happen.

the scene in the bathroom with vita's hat made my heart break a little bit

oh!! and the audiobook was fantastic for how much sunday pays attention to pronunciation and accents, really a great bonus. i found myself saying phrases alongside sunday at some points.

I really enjoyed this! Definitely started slowly and took a while to pick up but you could really see the slow disintegration of her family.

The book brings a sense of foreboding from the beginning & you can viscerally feel the wrenching away of Dolly & the psychological manipulation.
All in all a terribly sad book where the people who most accept Sunday are the ones who are about to wreck havoc on her heart and those who despise and neglect her stand by and let it all pan out.
And no matter how teenage-y Dolly is / how awful and heartless a child could be?!

I'm still working out what to make of this book.
Sunday is a well written protagonist and I enjoyed seeing the world through her eyes. I found her post very sad and the unfolding relationships were unsettling. There's a lot of ambiguity. Part of me wanted a clearer or happier ending for her, but I think I would have been frustrated as a reader if the book had suddenly lurched into a Hollywood style wrapping up of everything.
