An enjoyable read. I was laughing from the beginning and the heroine's train of thought was hilarious. The only objection I have is that the interaction between the hero and heroine came too late - pages and pages had been wasted until they finally met, for the second time, that is. The rest of the story was predictable but not in a negative way.

What Happens in Scotland was a fun, light and quick read. I liked the premise of the book. After the first chapter, the story seemed to slow down a bit, but about halfway through story picks up.

This was just an ok read. (Spoilers)

The couple wake up together in the first chapter and it the set up make for a promising read. However, after that the couple spend the first half of the book apart. The first half really drags with both characters trying to figure out why they can’t remember getting married, but apart. By the time they meet up again, I just lost interest in them. I want to read a book about two characters interacting with each other, and falling in love. The amount of time the couple spends apart just annoyed me. Also, I know for plot reasons, the maid character needed to be with the heroine for half the book, but did she half to be so annoying?

📌 You’ll dig this if you like
» Slow burns
» Only one horse
» Thrill of the chase
» Opposites attract

Lady Georgette Thorold wakes up next to a very handsome stranger and can’t remember anything about the night before. He calls her “wife”, she freaks out, and cracks the stranger on the head with a chamber pot and takes off.

When James McKenzie wakes up later to find the room in disarray, his head bloodied, and money purse missing, the hunt is on for the mysterious woman who is equally beguiling as she is frustrating.

They spend half the book looking for each other over the course of a day and the remainder trying to decide if they should make (keep) it official. This story is basically The Hangover but make it regency era Scotland; it was a hysterical take on the Vegas marriage trope, and I loved it.

I listened to the audiobook while reading and devoured it in a day or so. The story flowed nicely, and the narration was excellent.

📌 What stood out
» Elsie the would-be lady’s maid was so funny, and I loved her cheeky approach to absolutely everything. She encourages Georgette not to take herself so seriously and I loved it.

» The mysteries of what Georgette did to “help” some of the secondary characters; she assumes the worst, and finding out the truth was gorgeous. Very clever and well played!

"When she finally- finally- stood up to him instead of stuttering out an apology, she was glorious. Good God, was it any wonder he had behaved so impulsively last night? He was not tempted just to throw caution to the wind in response to her smile.
He was tempted to wrap caution around a rock and toss it through his other bloody window."

🚫 Contains drugging to force a marriage (not between MCs), (gun) and (knife) violence, blood. Please check warnings.

Made it to page 54 and gave up. Just not interested in the Hangover twist especially when they haven't spent any time together yet.
