So we’ve got a sex addict who is a professor, alcoholic who misses playing football and is so sweet, and a psychotic/creep that is a teachers assistant. Well doesn’t that make for an interesting story. The pacing of the story was decent. Just felt that the story could have been a little shorter. I like the overall plot and theme of the book. Listened to this on hoopla.

Ethan was for sure two sheets in the wind crazy but hell with his up bringing something was bound to happen. He was going to lengths to make sure Shelia was going to be his. Shelia behind played with fire and needed to learn what’s more important. Girl you already dealing with enough in your life. Morris is such a sweetheart. He was not giving up on that woman.

The ending was cool. The twist got me a little but not to the point my jaw was dropped. I’ll go ahead and listen to book 2. Also let’s not forgot Jerry the PI. I liked his character.

This was such a great listen! I was binging it every opportunity I had. I definitely didn’t see the ending twist coming! I do wish we got a little more at the end about each character. Would recommend if you’re looking for a quick paced, action packed psychological domestic thriller.

𝘽𝙇𝙐𝙍𝘽:

Pulsing with the dark obsession of Radiohead’s song “Creep,” Jennifer Hillier’s superb debut thriller is a terrifying cat-and-mouse game between a woman with everything to lose, and the lover she couldn't resist…who’s now the monster who won’t let her go.

A popular psychology professor in Seattle, Sheila works hard to keep her secrets hidden. On the surface, she’s an expert in human behavior and a well-liked educator, but nobody knows she’s a recovering sex addict in therapy—not even the love of her life, Morris. And she needs it to stay that way, or she could lose everything.

But Ethan Wolfe is impossible to resist. The graduate student is brilliant, charming, and seductive as hell. He’s also Sheila’s teaching assistant, and thirteen years her junior. Ignoring the risks to her career and relationship, they begin an illicit affair that lasts three months, until Morris asks her to marry him. Determined to get her life back on track, Sheila commits to a future with her fiancé, a man she’s not sure she deserves.

But Ethan can’t move on so easily. He didn’t pursue his professor for as long as he did to get dumped for some boring, middle-aged suit. Ethan’s made plans too, and he doesn’t take rejection well. When the body of one of Sheila’s students is discovered floating in Puget Sound—a young woman Ethan was rumored to have dated—it’s clear that the graduate student has secrets of his own.

And he’s not about to let Sheila get away.

I enjoyed this book. There was diversity throughout and good storytelling

It’s dark but worth it.

This was meant to be a new year read for me, but I made a rookie error and started reading it on 28th December.... I had finished it by 30th :)

So as my last book of the year, I was really really impressed. A fast paced, but also slow burning novel - if that can be? It had so much build up to the main event, but also so much happened in that build up that it never felt slow or filler-y. It was perfectly written with 100% creepiness at the fore.

Sheila is a psych professor, who's having an affair with a student, Ethan. She gets engaged to someone else and breaks off the affair. Ethan then turns into the psycho stalker from hell and it all goes to pot. We follow this crazy ride right through until a creepy cliff hanger ending.

Ethan is absolutely insane, he's textbook antisocial personality with psychopath tendencies and he is just the creepiest guy ever. What starts as controlling and coercive behaviour soon turns deadly and Sheila is basically fighting for her life!

Loved this so much, and cannot recommend it highly enough.
