My 5 yr old thought it was super funny how big the lady kept getting. This book created a giggle fest

An enjoyable book that is out of the norm, about an old lady who swallows all things that aren't meant to be eaten. And she gets bigger and bigger until she eventually swallows a horse and dies.

Caldecott Honor Award Winning storybook. Yes it is just the song in a book. But with a little bit of snark and wit on the side. And some clever art. Definitely better than I was expecting. And that's even with the art style of simple collages and cutouts not being anything that I particularly like.

Familiar rhyme and story with detailed kid friendly pictures. The illustrations foreshadow what animal will be swallowed next, which lead to good predictions. I liked the cut out views that show what animal was swallowed.

It's really funny and I liked the illustrations. They add a strange modern vibe to a classic story.
Poor old lady btw.

A fun portrayal of a traditional folk song. Fun, interest-sparking illustrations with a good use of cut-outs. A bit morbid in its honesty.
Mother Tongue Notes: A fun piece of Americana. Constant rhythm, rhyme and repetition for easy use with a group of wide-range readers. Uses several American idioms that may be unfamiliar to non-American English speakers. Watch a youtube video after the reading to hear the song sung.

Part of a personal challenge to read all of my boyfriend's and his sister's childhood books before we donate and give them away

A fun, but rather morbid, classic picture book about an old lady who swallowed a fly (and subsequently swallows a bunch of other animals). Why? No one knows, but perhaps she'll die.
