One of the only books to ever make me cry, masterful work.

One of my all time favorite books, I recommend it to everyone, especially young women or anyone struggling with (or who has struggled with) an eating disorder.

A decent read for anyone who wants to learn about the internal dialogue of someone with an eating disorder. Overall, the book is captivating enough that you want to continue, but for me, it was not profound.

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson is a read that makes you reflect on yourself and the world/society we live in. This was not a light read at all, often it was hard for me to get through it which was surprising for myself as I usually can take triggering stuff. Please be aware of all the trigger warnings before you decide to pick up this book. It is beautifully crafted but one that is very dark to digest.
I love how Laurie Halse Anderson didn’t make a love story Lia’s savior of the story.
It was inspiring to see Lia be the savior of her own struggles and to show how nothing was easy to forget and forgive. The story was very difficult to take at times but it really is one that should be celebrated for its message.

2 hours - I've read Wintergirls so many times I've lost count. It is a book that conflicts me everytime, as it is simultaneously quite poetic yet blunt, and dull yet intriguing. I do like that the main character is never presented as a good person - her disorder has interfered with her relationships significantly, and she has done bad things because of it, but she is increasingly haunted by her actions or lack thereof. However, it does feel a little irresponsible of a book, almost a 'how-to' guide for disordered eating behaviours.
