While I did enjoy it, I feel a bit differently from how I usually do.

I liked the new side characters. Is is frustrating, however, that we have no idea what happened to Dain since they didn't find him or mention him again by the end. Or maybe that means we'll see him later!

I liked the plot twists going on. It seems like every page had one, and that made it even more exciting! They weren't done or written poorly, so they were neat to figure out. I also thought the password puzzle thing was a cute addition. Jasmine's code was pretty cool as well.

I liked the boat scene. That had most of the crazy stuff going on for sure. And what a neat tactic to throw them off track, that was excellent!

It makes me sad that the BBEG only lasted a few pages. It was cool that it was an all-brain, no-brawn kind of fight, but it definitely felt too easy. They immediately get their stuff back, then it works like normal, and he immediately then finds the gem and they run out. I wish they hadn't gotten their stuff back first and had to find it the old-fashioned way by "pulling themselves up by the bootstraps," if you will.

Reading these years later and realizing that it still is one of the best things I have come across. I was first reluctant to read the series because if the strange monster covers but honestly, the story is just simply good. It is quick paced and creative. The characters are great. Really re-reading these has not changed my love for the books in any manner if not increased it even more.
