3.5-Rounded Down-I have to say the beginning of this book did not have me sold. But I'm glad I stuck through it, because the ending was amazing. I was a little disappointed with how the romance played out, although it probably gets explained deeper in the next book. I will be reading the next book. Solid YA gay Fantasy- with a great ending.

Let me just tell y'all how I felt about this book in parts.

First 200 pages:
- wow I really don't like one of the main characters. She's not somebody I would take the time to be around and I don't trust her.
- this is really slow and it's a lot of me getting annoyed with what's happening
- I still really wanna read this because it's gay tho

Page 300
- ok.... that was a pretty awesome plot twist
- this other plot twist I saw coming from miles away and it made me roll my eyes
- I'm really getting into this as we uncover more secrets
- OMG MY HEART IS BREAKING

last 20 pages
- wtf
-wtf
-wtf???
- I don't like this... do I wanna read the next book?

Anyway, that's about as coherent as I can be.

Rounding up to 4 for the often lyrical, evocative writing and versatile narration by Justine Eyre. First in a series. Nirrim awakens to her world and her powers, meeting and losing her love, the Lady Sid, along the way to what the future will hold. Excellent banter and yearning between the pair. What will be needed to right the wrongs of the past and help people rise up.

This book was so good!! I love the writing style and how the characters spoke, I love that it was fantasy and gay and about being badass women. The main character can feel whiny at times but oh man did the ending make me excited for the next book!

Very well crafted world building and really interesting characters. Had trouble with the cliffhanger ending, but looking forward to the sequel!
