Maybe I didn’t give it enough focus. I don’t tend to like stories with few characters, and more description than action.

Beautifully written. Depicts hardship, humanity and the mundane in a way that is made beautiful. Pensive in tone and brimming with empathy, yet understated in emotion. Really enjoyed reading this, kind of wish it was longer!

A simple, no-nonsense, beautifully written tale about how one man's moral dilemma brings him full-circle.

Another short but very impactful book from Claire Keegan. I really liked Bill, and I'm glad he got the start in life that he did when - as we learn - many babies in similar situations at the time didn't.

I was happy with the way the book ended wrt his parentage, and I'm now off to go down a rabbit hole of Magdalene laundries.
