Beautiful, moving (haunting), and in an interesting world I would love to spend more time in.

I feel like this story was going for a sort of H. P. Lovecraft vibe (minus the racism) and I guess it hit those points a bit but I just wasn't into it.

Read it if you want but I'm not recommending it.

This was an interesting short story that has just made me want to read JY Yang’s work even more than I did before. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer! I want to know about Circus Girl’s past - I want a full novel of her life as a teenager, when her mother died & when Mirror Boy first came into her life.

⚠️ Attempted rape/rape references, mention of the death of a parent & sexual content ⚠️

I have yet to find anything JY Yang has written that I didn't like, but this one felt rushed to me, especially the eventual solution. I'm not saying it should have been a novel (although I'd have loved that!), but it could have been a little bit more of a slow burn.

That said, it's a fantastic, creepy story and I'm very intrigued by the setting. I hope Yang does more with this world in the future even if they don't bring Lynette and Mirror Boy back.
