I loved it, I didn't know anything about it when I started reading it, but the characters and the emotions felt real, and that's rare to come across these days.

An easy read, I loved Seth's character. I would have liked to have seen more of a connection between him & Rosetta because at one point I was rooting for him & Kendall. Kendall had great presence. But I would still, definitely recommend it to a friend.

I really liked this book. It was hard to put down, and I really enjoyed hearing Seth's story from his POV. This felt real, and I liked the characters. Here's the summary:

Seth McCoy blames himself for his best friend's death. He constantly plays the 'What If' game, thinking he may have been able to do something differently that night to save Isaac. No one else seems to care as much as Seth does, and that bothers him. Even Isaac's on/off girlfriend, Kendall, a childhood friend of Seth's, seems to have forgotten so soon. But Seth gets a wake-up call in the form of school, in particular this Interpersonal Communications class, where he meets Riley/Rosetta. The form an unlikely bond only to find that they both have secrets and issues to deal with. Will it work? Will it last? You have to read this one to find out!

Freefall is written in first-person (my favorite), past-tense. This novel's main character is male, and it's written by a female author. I don't always love this combination, but Mindi Scott pulled it off really well. I never really felt like she got the reactions wrong or that dialogue and events were too unrealistic. High school is a tough time, and lots of drama takes place. Seth's band drama, drama with Kendall, and school drama co-mingle here to make a story the reader can really care about. I really felt myself pulling for Seth, hoping everything would turn out right.

Yes, he feels sorry for himself a bunch of times, and yes, he makes some wrong choices. He's been dealt some tough cards. His best friend just died, he lives on the poor side of town, he never knew his father, and his friends don't act like they are on his side of life. He learns slowly but surely to make the best of things, take risks, and step out of his comfort zone. It's a bit of a tough journey with bumps and bruises along the way. His brother wants him to drop out of school to tour with the band. Kendall always wants something from him. He gets in a fight with a big jerk. But you're always hoping that he'll manage to pull through.

Rosetta seems like THE coolest girl ever. She's also been through a very rough patch, as Seth learns little by little. They make a sweet team, and it's easy to want them to work through whatever is stopping them from being together. There are misunderstandings along the way, of course (this IS high school), but they are friendly enough to help each other out with their deepest secrets at the beginning so there is always hope.

I would definitely recommend this book!! It's honest, funny, real, sad, and sweet. Please check it out. :o)

I should know by now that, whenever when I'm delaying reading a certain book, said book is a frigging perfection and must be read right away...

It has all the elements I like in my books: music, dark humor, a wacky Communication class and teacher who likes to be called Mrs. Dalloway, a sarcastic flawed broken hero, a sweet nerdy heroine, lots of kissing and a swoon-worthy, butterflies-invading-your-stomach romance. What more can a girl ask for??

Um, yeah, some spoilers ahead kids.

This book is about a Seth. The people who know me, know what that means. To say that I'm madly in love with the name is still an understatement. I don't know why, but whenever I hear or see the name I that thing dogs do with their head and their ears whenever somebody mentions words like 'walk' or 'treat' or whatever. You can tell me you've named your mailbox Seth and I'd still be interested.

Random oddball information aside, I liked this book. Seth is pretty much your average kid with no future. He drinks, he does drugs, isn't doing well in school and plays bass in a band. His best friend Isaac died Jimi Hendrix-style and Seth was the last to see him alive and the first to see him dead. He feels like he killed his best friend because he wasn't there to save him.

There are two girls who play a part in his life:

Kendall, Isaac's ex, who let's Seth believe he had sex with her (he doesn't remember a single thing about it and even that doesn't ring any bells with him) and runs around calling him 'lover' (that word always makes me think of Phoebe Buffay). She's pretty eccentric and I didn't like her at first. She pays Seth to go to homecoming with her just so she can make her secret boyfriend jealous. I ended up liking her very much, but I won't tell you why because I want you to read this book.

Rosetta, the girl Seth is in love with, who doesn't ride in cars, and, of all sports, plays golf. I adore her.

It wasn't the most original book, the reason why Rosetta doesn't even want to be near a car wasn't hard to guess, neither was the secret boyfriend and of course, the ending was pretty predictable as well. I felt like bear hugging somebody after reading the last page.

Oh and last but not least: I want a Magic 8 Ball key chain!

I liked Seth's voice in this a lot. The book reminded me a lot of Adios, Nirvana mixed with Tell Me a Secret.

This book was pretty good. Throughout reading, I kept waiting for something horrible to happen. Nothing too dramatic did though and I was kind of let down. However I really did enjoy the characters.
