This picture book deals with the difficult topic of a grandmother's mental decline and death, and even though the timeline feels a bit rushed for the picture book format, the story feels authentic to a child's perspective. The illustrations greatly enrich this, and the ending is sweet.

A sweet story of love and grief. The illustrations are *gorgeous* - almost better than the story itself (and that's coming from someone who adores everything by Cecil Castellucci). A great, great book.

These charming illustrations showcase the talent of first-time illustrator Julia Denos. More than an “issue book”, this picturebook tells the story of a little girl and her grandmother who bond over growing plants and gardening. When her grandmother dies, the little girl is sad until she remembers all the gardening skills her grandmother has taught her. The illustrations capture the love and vivacity of their relationship, as green growing things jump off the page at the reader.

Tender in its dialogue, moving in the way that it addresses grief, loss, and the effects of Alzheimer's disease, Grandma's Gloves is the kind of story that leaves a very delicate yet meaningful impression on its reader. The illustrations are beautifully rendered and seem to help carry the story along, adding a sense of reality... almost as if this little girl were in the room with you, quietly telling you about her grandmother and what made her so incredibly special.

Pull out the tissues. You will cry by the end of the book I am pretty sure of it. The book is about a little girl whose grandmother passes away. The resolution and the child's coming to terms is one of the best that I have seen when dealing with this topic.
