This had everything I wanted and love…

I freaking love this book! It reminds me of myself when I was a teenager. The music choices were great! And the reference from the title was awesome! This is a great summer read! And great for YA readers and some of us adults that can reminisce about their childhood!

I enjoyed this US-set story. Extra points for my favourite The Cure song and total black joy.

Garrett illustrates the complexities of intersectionality; Mahalia's economic situation is as central as her race and queerness.

Society might expect me to come out over and over again, but this party has taught me that it can be a moment of joy, a way to celebrate myself.
Coming out can be something I do just for me.

I knew nothing about this book when I decided to put it on my TBR list, the cover is just so stunning and I knew I wanted to read whatever it was about. Turns out it is a YA book, all about friendships, family, falling in love and planning a huge coming out party! I obviously am not the target audience for this one, but I loved everything about it!
