This is such a sweet story. In true Japanese fashion this is a story about spirits and the human element. I love that their world is similar to ours. Each side has good and bad and family is everything. This is a warm-hearted story that will take the chill out of your rainy day. This is a great autumn read.

"Welcome to the haunted bookstore! It's old, run-down, and a bit cramped, but please make yourself at home!"

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first picked up The Haunted Bookstore, but I was delighted to find a warm and cozy light nivel that left me wanting more.

The book follows Kaori's life as the only human living in the dangerous world of spirits. We get to explore a bit of this concept until she encounters an unusual fellow human boy stranded in the spirit world called Sumei, and that's where the hints of the plot begin to show up.

The book feels like a collection of short stories interconnected by a slight thread rather than a truly co tenuous narrative, but, in my opinion, that's what makes the book so charming.

The prose is simple but effective, and I found myself enjoying the book the more it went one. It's definitely worth a read if you want some cozy fantasy.
