I read this in a book exchange with a friend. I was a little nervous going into it because I wasn’t sure how weird it was going to be. And it was weird, in a fun, trippy way.

Joe Chip is down on his luck. He can’t even find a nickel to open his apartment door, when his boss sends him to Luna to investigate the disappearances of his mind reading colleagues for a rival operation. Once he’s on Luna, things begin to unravel. Nothing is quite as it seems, something is not right, but Chip can’t figure out what he’s missing. He continues forward, deliberating on what he isn’t seeing, while living a mind bending reality that has it in for him.

As the members of his group disappear one by one, Chip must figure out what is happening before it’s too late. Where are his companions going and what is happening to the world?

At the same time, the mysterious substance Ubik is being touted constantly as a cure all for everything, possibly even the collapse of reality. But can Chip get some in time? The harder he tries to get some Ubik, the farther he seems from actually attaining any.

Wow that summary was hard to write. This book almost defies explanation. It’s a mind bending thrill ride from the beginning to the end. I’m surprised there isn’t more fanfare for this work of Dick. I loved it, it was weird and fun and amazing and I’m so thankful my friend asked me to read it.

I finished this a few weeks ago... This is probably my favorite PKD book I've read. it starts out a little weird, but by the time you figure out what's happening, it gets amazing!

Got some lowkey "workplace comedy" vibes from this one, despite it mostly being disorientating and at times creepy and confusing. Didn't get further explanations for everything I would have liked, especially regarding the "entity" in cold-pac, but overall this was fun. Also I enjoy me an ambiguous ending.
