This book gets, if possible, even darker than the previous two.

Basically, if you have a strong stomach, enjoy a well-penned tale, and like gothic monsters with the occasional historical figure, this book is for you.

Was a little disappointed by the "monster" in this book. Seemed like you spent most of the book trying to get to the isle of blood and then it was only 50 pages of island. It was gruesome like the last 2 books and being a microbiologist I would have thought I would have been impressed by a contagion monster, but I wasn't.

I don't normally complain about a book being too long, as I like a lot of detail in my novels, but this is the first of the three of this series that caused my eyes to glaze over and my head to drop repeatedly. Too much padding delaying the central action of the story.

This book started off slow but interesting as ever. Not a dull moment. It also left you a bit confused as to what monster they were hunting or chasing this time. Will's character development grew quite a bit. I wasn't surprised but still a little shocked. Will definitely meet darkness in this book. Everything about this book made me love it. It was definitely mysterious and intriguing all the way through. The writing and the story are equally as good as the last two books.

Definitely more like a 4.5 stars. This is an amazing series and each book just gets better and better.

I feel like Yancey has, in the last two books, stopped writing about the monsters. He instead writes about the people who hunt them. Yancey's writing is all about character and that is the essence of this book. The character development is both phenomenal and heartbreaking. Read it if you want to feel something, because I can promise that the feels were, like Will Henry with the arawakus that sustains him, infested within the book.

pg. 270 - "He'd had no idea that Great Britain's Sherlock Holmes was America's Pellinore Warthrop."

pg. 279 - "'God save me, I can't stand the English! I challenge anyone in this room to name one worthwhile thing that ever came out of the British Isles, besides William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, and Tiptree jams! England is home to the most unattractive people on earth!' He glared at Walker. 'You are the perfect example. You are a very homely man, and don't get me started on your queen--'"

<3 Pellinore Warthrop, but the massive plot was a bit much for itself -
