Formulaic and one-note, but a light and fun read if you're looking for some fictional escapism.

warmed my heart

I loved this book! Read it so fast I couldn’t put it down. Sometimes it was a little cheesy but I still loved it. I would definitely recommend this book to all my friends! Finally a black female protagonist!

By far the best contemporary romance I’ve read in years. The characters are well developed and the story is sexy, sweet, and witty. The author delivers the experience of building an interracial dating relationship with authenticity. So many conversations between Alexa and Drew resonated with me as discussions my partner and I have had over the years. I knew Roxane Gay wouldn’t steer me wrong with her hearty recommendation. Glad my trust was so well placed.

Pretty mid. I didn’t like the constant switching of POV’s

A quick easy read with plenty of smut however story never develops in a meaningful way. Not very memorable

I am not a big reader of adult romance novels, but this one was recommended by several friends. It was an enjoyable book with great characters. I plan to read more of Jasmine Guillory's books.

Great inclusive relationship but a little repetitive with all the pages of “love making”.

I really really wanted to like this book but it just isn’t for me.
For me, this book was too focused around sex.. the main character Drew couldn’t even look at Alexa without picturing her naked and it was constant. Every time they saw each other they were at it multiple times with very little conversation about themselves and I’m expected to believe they truly love each other enough to get engaged a year later? No thank you not for me.
I also don’t think I even really liked the characters. Alexa is so insecure about her body and her confidence in Drew, which at some points was relatable but overall she came across as a whiny child to me and I couldn’t handle it. Drew is a ‘stereotypical guy’ who doesn’t date or fall in love and is in constant denial and thinks about breaking up with Alexa repeatedly so he doesn’t get attached. This doesn’t feel like a healthy relationship and I couldn’t ever see the positives of it. Also how do they eat so much fast food and not either throw up or gain ridiculous amount of weight? Drew is a doctor for goodness sake, eat some vegetables. (Grandma rant over)
I will say I was a big fan of how the book talks about race and makes a big point about practicing safe sex.. can’t give a book with that a one star now can I? Unfortunately I did pretty much skim read the second half of the book and sort of wish I’d just stopped reading it.

This was probably one of my less favorite couple relationships (Drew was a little mean at points, Alexa was very insecure), but even so I will read/love anything Jasmine puts out there. I love that the characters are interrelated, I love that they're real people. Even Alexa's negative internal thoughts and insecurities were real and while they felt repetitive in book form, negative internal thoughts and insecurities ARE repetitive in real life, so I can't even really fault for that. I love the world Jasmine has built and I leave each book feeling like I'm friends with the whole cast of characters and want her to just keep writing into this universe for the rest of time. They're simple, they're happy, they're a perfect break from pandemic brain.

Jasmine, consider me a huge fan.
