Mim Malone is now one of my all time favorite characters.

That's all that has to be said.
This book was wonderful.

I've read better, but this wasn't awful.

This book was sweet but had way too much going on for me, both in terms of themes and the overestimated wisdom and musings of a 16-year-old. The coincidences were a little too contrived, and the characters leapt a little too far off the page. I felt like the author was trying to make a lot of Grandiose Observations about life, but through the eyes of someone who has only lived 16 years. Still, a good story overall.

“Be a kid of honesty. Wave it like a banner for all to see.. Be a kid who loves surprises... Be curious, but content. Be loyal, but independent. Be kind. To everyone. Treat every day like you're making waffles... Live your effing life. Do it with gusto... Know yourself. Love yourself. Be a good friend. Be a kid of hope and substance. Be a kid of appetite”

This book wrecking my feeling.
And I don't expect it at all.

To begin with, I pick this book based by the quote above that I found. And then my adventure in this story begins which is super bizarre and odd and got that feeling like indie genre. I know that most of other people think that this book is totally weird and I couldn't agree more because this book is surely have that weird-mess-quirk vibe but it's also one of the plus factor that makes me love this book.

So we follow Mim, in a road trip because she wants to meet her mom and along the way she'll meet countless people and various events that will change her. The plot is actually kind of simple but I will applaud the author for the fact that he can turn this book into something much more interesting through the characters, the settings, and also the events.

I do love almost every characters in this book.
First of all, Mim, our bizarre heroine which is totally weird, sassy, and cynical. She is surely not the most lovable character but I do love and root her since the beginning and that's not because she's that 'one of a type' kind of girl but it's more about the fact that she's so messed up but still trying to hold everything together. She's not flawless and I can truly relate with several of her thoughts which strangely similar like mine and maybe that's what I like the most about her.
Secondly, I LOVE WALT. He's so soft and cute and wonderful and I really enjoy his appearance in this character and I wish the author will make his own book because I do want to know more about what's going on inside his head.
I also love the other side characters which I will not mention here because that'll totally spoil the plot but overall, I love almost all of the characters here. Well, some of them giving me creepy feelings or even mad blazing like fire, but still most of them are full of flaws but also lovely in their own way.
Sadly, I can't relate with Beck
Spoilerwhich is Mim's love interest
at all. He's okay I guess? But I don't feel anything at all for him and I think he's a little bit plain. I do wish that he'll have some interesting aspect from him rather than his looks.

The other thing that I don't really like about the book is how the ending just feel like plain?

But overall, I think this is one of that books that will totally change you especially if you have some sort of experience and pain like the one that our main character going through.

No matter how weird it is, this book could wreck my feeling in every possible way. I also happened to have emotional roller coaster through this book because I can laugh at one page and then cry my heart out in the next page. The unexpected found family trope in this book is another point that I love the most from this book. But the best of all, I could feel the pain in Mim and I wish that I could hug her and also thank her because she help me through my own phase of pain that I happened to endure nowadays.

Thank you Mim and I'll never forget to wear my War Paint as well from now on.

it was a compelling read, and the plot kept me guessing.

it does feature sexual assault of a young girl. i don't like reading SA. this is not the first book i've read where a young girl is attacked by an old man after he follows her into the bathroom. gives me the fuckin heebie jeebies.

DNF at page 125.

I feel so awful, because this book was a gift and SO many people adored this book. But I just couldn't get into it. I was very bored through what I read, and did not care for the MC at all.

Mim is a witty, intelligent, and honest 16 year old who learns a lot about life during a short trip. I read the book in little snippets because Mim is a deep thinker, and I, too, had to think deeply while reading the book. I enjoyed Mim's brutal honesty and her perceptions of the world.

Well write but too heavy and too many content triggers for me.
