Yay. That was long, but so worth it. I've read the four main full length novels before, and all the short story collections except the last two, so it was kind of a reread for me, but not entirely. Whatever the case (heh, case), classic murder mysteries are cosy reads for me, despite all the, you know, murders.

And that's all I can really say in the review, because it's every single Sherlock Holmes book in one, so... the end.

(P.S. isn't this just the coolest cover?!)

This was the entire Sherlock Holmes collection so it took me forever to finish and I sometimes put it down for a few months at a time. Overall I really liked it. Sherlock Holmes is an incredibly interesting character and the relationship with Watson is a peculiar one as well. Some of the stories were more predictable than others and there was some repetition when I read too many in one go.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the scripts or the autobiography, but those surprised me the most. Particularly the autobiography was great. I don't think it's a genre I explored before and it's quite something to read about the wars by someone who was in them. I'm not sure there's anything Arthur Conan Doyle hasn't done.

This collection is amazing, the narration is perfect. Whether you're new to Holmes or a die hard fan, you will be swept away by this collection. Absolutely fabulous!

What can I say - I'm a sucker for listening to Stephen Fry, and when I saw Audible would give me 3 whole days of his voice for one credit I didn't even hesitate.

The opening salvo of this collection really encapsulates the why of the enduring nature of Holmes & Watson. Were the collection to stop with The Hound of the Baskervilles, hot on the tales of The Final Problem, then I would have struggled to give this less than 4.5/5 and may even have argued myself up to the full whack. Alas that the collection continued, in the manner that it did.

Some tales in the latter days of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle should be the preserve of the completionist and of the scholar. Listening to the last day or so of Fry's voice, I found my own attention drifting in the manner that Conan Doyle's must have drifted as he regurgitated and repurposed plots and stories from his earlier canon. Were it all downhill I could maybe have attributed it to the decline of a literary great, but the flashes of brilliance and diamonds in the rough peppered throughout served as confirmation that the author hadn't lost the spark, but was merely not bothered with kindling it for each story.

Completion of this collection was only made possible by Stephen Fry's narration, and his anecdotes and observations at the start of each section. Despite this it still took me a good three months and change to make it all the way to the finish line.

This was an amazing listen! Stephen Frye does a superb job as a narrator. I’ve loved Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson since I was a kid. There wasn’t one story I disliked or found uninteresting. For my fellow audiobook enthusiasts I will share that is available for free for members of Audible.
