If you read one fiction book this year, read this book. This is so completely essential. I could go on and on about how amazing Akwaeke Emezi and their writing is - I thought Pet took the cake, and it did, and also Bitter is the best YA book I've ever read, hands down. Keep resisting. Keep choosing love over power. Keep choosing love over fear.

I think the title should be changed to: Little Gates or maybe Eucalyptus.
The beginning dragged a little while I tried to figure Bitter's character out.
* Spoiler *
I did not understand how Eddie decided to not be friends with Bitter after they made up and Bitter even went to the frontline. Eddie said that she respected Bitter's artistic ability and not everyone is meant for the frontline. Just because Bitter is not Assata, Eddie can't handle that?
#JusticeforMrNelson - Vengeance was an asshole for not saving Mr. Nelson
The characters should have called them demons instead of angels because those creatures only wanted bloodshed and destruction. They did not understand nor care for humans so they were not a blessing but a curse. If they were angels then Vengeance could have saved Mr. Nelson but they viewed a few innocents getting killed as collateral for the good of the hunt. For all their power they can only be called forth by a gate and then banished by a gate which are teenagers, seems a little hokey. Sounds like an extreme and unstable physical manifestations of teenage psychic abilities. Reminds me of poltergeist activity that can be caused by teenage hormone imbalances and unrestrained mental projections.

Si os ha gustado Mascota, tenéis que leer Bitter. Y si no habéis leído Mascota, no sé a qué estáis esperando.
Es duro, pero no se recrea ni hurga en el dolor. Y te recuerda que la esperanza es una disciplina, es algo que se tiene que trabajar y por lo que vale la pena hacerlo.
