Totally hated this book. Finished 40% and it was going nowhere.

""O que é o amor? Não existe nada no mundo, nem homem, nem diabo, nem qualquer coisa, que eu considere tão suspeito como o amor, pois este penetra mais a alma que outra coisa qualquer. Não há nada que ocupe tanto e amarre o coração como o amor."

An interesting, but very lengthy read. The plot-line is very plodding. I did appreciate the overview and discussion by the author at the end of the book.

I had to renew it 5 times so I could finish it. I would suggest reading the notes at the end first so you can understand the structure better. You also need to have a slight knowledge of religion, the Bible and inquisition, and you are good to go.

Good, the murder mystery was great, the library was so cool with all its secret passages and labyrinth so unique. Bad - All the long winded monks talking endlessly about minuscule aspects of their leaders interpretations of the bible which filled at least three-fourths of this book. Plus the villain of the book spent an hour of reading time monologing about his triumphs in the deaths. 10 out of 10 would not read again.

After months I've finally read it!
Sadly the afterword was more fun to read than some parts of the book. I love the elements the book is made of but as a whole it gave me grief to read trough it.
The end was rewarding enough and the afterword is the reason for 3 star rating.
