It took me way too long to finally read this book.
I laughed out loud and enjoyed it immensely.
Action packed and fun to read. This book series remains one of my favorites!

This book is everything I love about the Mercy Thompson series! Unknown magic, political stress, the fae doing weird things and Mercy baking^.^ This was such a fun ride, with some stress inducing twists and turns thrown in. Also included were plenty of laughs and just beautiful writing.

YAY, Mercy’s Back!
description

The Good:
+Fucking everything

I love how this series stays true while continuing. I’ve been burned by long series before and I’ve no doubt Mercy won’t disappoint.

She’s still her in all her snarky without going overboard glory. She’s not the “chosen one” or most powerful or any of that nonsense. But she’s loyal, smart, and a fucking menace. Why can’t other paranormal books take a hint?!?!

Not to mention, her issues are real and grounded. It’s not shrugged off. She still has her insecurities, and PTSD. (Same with other characters as well, really). Even after 8 books with her, we still get to learn and see her grow a bit.

Mercy and Adam’s hard fought romance is balanced between equals that work on their relationship. They’re on solid ground so Fire Touched isn’t all about them working it out. It’s just nice to see them being a happy, healthy kick-ass couple. Adam is the right kind of Alpha. And I don’t say that often.

While Christy’s still Christy, it’s nice to find out there’s some movement on that front. Okay, so it’s like a paragraph reveal but still. Because she really needs to be dealt with. She doesn’t and shouldn’t hang around anymore. It’s tiring and a stick in the mud in their relationship. They have other shit they can do and work on. They’re not perfect and don’t need her to provide pointless relationship drama.

I love learning about how Joel’s faring and some different wolves. And thank fuck Adam finally put his foot down! Bigger, badder, and better things are coming finally; they have to be united to face it all.

Fire Touched has more politics than action, which is a nice break from constant fighting. It gives a purpose within a larger picture. And we learn so much more about the Fae. It’s set-up wonderfully from the previous installments.

The plot with the human boy stolen by Fae, Aiden, is fully resolved while we’ve got open-ended world developments to follow in the next books. Plus, we get to see some characters that have been sorely missed return and new faces that mesh perfectly.

Aiden is a well-done little shit! His characterization makes perfect sense. I liked him with Mercy, Adam, and Jesse but he did deserve to get smacked. I’ll be happy to see more of him, his progression, and path.

I do wish we learned more about the walking stick, but Mercy doesn’t know shit about it and neither does anyone else apparently. It’s very important in this book and while I don’t like its conclusion, I can see why it had to be. It became rather convenient and perhaps a little too helpful for plotting, suspense, and to keep Mercy grounded.

Now to wait for the next book! :( This is why I like waiting for series to finish before starting but Mercy is too good to miss out on!

Fire Touched
3 Stars

With tensions between the fae and the humans at an all-time high, Mercy, Adam and their pack agree to give sanctuary to a young human boy stolen by the fae and gifted with the elemental power of fire. Can Mercy and her mate come to a compromise with the fae or will it be all out war?

Unfortunately, this installment left me cold. It's possible that this is due to series burnout (it has been a long while since I read the last book) or it could be the lack of any real tension or excitement in the story.

Mercy and Adam's relationship is solid, and she has also established herself with most of the pack, so what little disagreement there is in this regard is resolved very quickly and easily. The main conflict with the fae is very lackluster. There is very little action to speak of and it is mostly political maneuvering and posturing.

Mercy also appears to be a shadow of her former self. It cannot be said that she was ever really a kickass heroine in the vein of Kate Daniels or Merit (Chicagoland Vampires), but she at least had some energy to her character. There is nary a glimpse of that here (
Spoilershe doesn't even shapeshift
) and all issues are resolved via a convoluted deus ex machina effect with Baba Yaga of all people.

All in all, a disappointing read to say the least. Hopefully, the next book will get back on track..

There are serious tensions brewing between supernatural factions in the Tri-Cities and, as usual, Mercy, Adam and the rest of the pack are right at the centre of things in this, the 9th instalment of the untouchable Mercy Thompson series.

First of all, just look at that cover! This series has the most beautiful artwork by Dan dos Santos (Check out more of his work here http://www.dandossantos.com/gallery.html). Even if I'd never heard of this series before I'd have come to a dead halt in the bookshop aisle at that amazing imagery. Of course, I have heard of the series. Who hasn't? It's literally the goalpost all other werewolf-centric series aim at, but never quite reach.

Onto this book in particular. It centres mostly on the tenuous relations between the fae and werewolves and there's a new character introduced who plays a pivotal role. Mercy is currently in a great place with her mate and husband Adam Hauptman, but in a slightly less great place with certain other members of her new pack, and this is something that gets addressed in this book - finally.

The highlights for me are...just Mercy. Everything she says, does and thinks. It's seems like every time I pick up one of these books I've somehow managed to forget how cool she is in between instalments. She's really wise (rare for a book heroine, I know) and that wisdom extends to admitting when she doesn't know something or that she's the wrong person for a particular job. I just love her. That is all.

The next book, Silence Fallen, is already out and there's at least one more planned after that. Can't wait.

I recognize that half-crazed desire t day, 'Mine, mine, mine', tempered by love that would never do that without a permission that will never come

Meeeeh...

More weak than the other books. Still enjoyed it. I liked Aiden, although we could have gotten more of his character. We could have gotten more of Underhill too.

There are a lot of things that we are told of in this book, not shown. There's also the problem that somethings are introduced to us too fast because they are needed in the next scene but they disappear afterwards.
SpoilerI'm talking about the wolf who is suicidal. The character is introduced to disappear again and never coming back.
This is occurring more and more through the series and it's something that worries me. It's like it's trying to keep the pace but leaving things behind. I wouldn't mind that the story slowed down a bit to explain and show us stuff that we need to know and that it's interesting. Because I'm not in this series ONLY because of Adam and Mercy. And I'm sure most of us aren't. The world is amazing and so many possibilities for the story to keep going. And I feel like instead of focusing on interesting characters that move the story, some times we just jump things or fastfoward.

I'm hoping it gets back on track at being amazing though because this series is my favorite urban fantasy story.

Death is not to be feared. Death is easy. It is living that is brutal.

Though I didn't care for Fire Touched as much as I did some of Mercy's other books, it's like saying I didn't care for one type of dark chocolate as much as another. There's no such thing as bad dark chocolate or a bad Mercy book in my opinion.

I don't want to go into any story details because I'm horribly afraid that I'll let a spoiler slip, but needless to say, there was tons of action, humor and even a little Mercy-Adam romance in it. If you're a fan, you don't want to miss it. If you aren't a fan yet, what are you waiting for?? Grab book one and get started!!
