Een echte Grisham. Geen hoogvlieger, wel pageturner.

Interesting story about corruption and vice along the Mississippi coast in the 60s and 70s, but otherwise pretty predictable.

For an author who says he works with the Innocence Project, I was disappointed how easily he let his main character shrug off sending someone to his death. A chance to further a conversation and thought around the death penalty, but takes the easy way out and chose revenge for his main character. The end could have been so powerful if the younger generation had been focused on and a real, genuine relationship was formed. If you’re thinking about picking up a Grisham, let me make some suggestions, leave this one on the shelf.

All Grisham books are at least pretty good. That is this one. Pretty good. Grisham is an outspoken opponent of the death penalty, but this book seemed like a defense of the death penalty, which is puzzling. The culture he described around Biloxi was interesting, as were the characters.
