Reread this series because I remembered enjoying it as a teen and had always wanted to go back and finish it. When something's stuck in my head like that I tend to see it through even if it's extremely disappointing as this was. I don't know how I missed all the misogyny, racism, homophobia, ableism (criminal overuse of the R slur), tokenization of Native culture, etc etc in high school but that's essentially all the books contain. They got slightly better when they started shifting to POVs outside of the insufferable MC but that wasn't enough to save it. After the first few books I found great reviews online that helped me get through them. I also started reading them as fast as I could to get it over with. I'll be glad to never read a word of them again lol.

Alright, well I read this one because I remembered reading it in high school & being OBSESSED but couldn’t actually remember much about it - and turns out that I get why high school Erica was into it, but now it leaves a lot to be desired even for a YA book.
Zoey is suddenly marked as a future vampire so it’s off to vampire school for her! Of course in typical YA style, she’s *special* and somehow this book manages to be the diary of a *not like other girls* girl, incredibly sexist & homophobic, and just plain dull. The book reads like the intro 5 chapters of a book except it takes 300 pages and then it ends without any real plot.

i didnt realise how much i adore these trashy late 2000s vampire (vampyre in this case) books until i picked this up at the library at work and read 60 odd pages in like 20 minutes.
Zoey Redbird is genuinely one of the best Mary Sues to ever exist because she is simultaneously a girlboss AND a girlfailure and honestly that's so real for being the most overpowered vampyre fledgling ever.
cant wait to start betrayed to get back into the groove of reading!

There's nothing really wrong with the story; it's vampires. It's high school. It's a very surface-level fun time. No real substance or development to be had here. Honestly, if it weren't for the rampant amount of body-shaming and slut-shaming, this book would've been a whole lot better, and I would've given it a better rating. I won't even get into the use of rude language (really didn't age well, book) and the extremely problematic views this book pushes about sex, especially regarding girls and sex. Don't forget the light sprinkle of racism and homophobia.

The MC is very shallow and has a pretty bad case of not-like-other-girls. But she's 16, and this book came out in 2007. Let's hope she grows as a person; there's 11 more books.

A somewhat dated vampire book that has lines aging like milk. However, to me, nothing a teenager says ages any better. Really quick read that both made me somewhat happy and also full of rage.

No recordaba este libro tan desastre absoluto. Vine por el mamarracheo, pero me quedé por cabezonería: no se puede aguantar a Zoey.
