This book was definitely interesting in parts, the memoir sections are what I felt most drawn to and eventually ended up skipping over the sections about the chess pieces and Sue’s heritage. I feel like things could have been contextualised a bit better and woven together more seamlessly for me to enjoy those parts. On the whole, it felt a little bit disjointed. We kept circling back to points not in chronological order which made reading the book feel a bit all over the place. Also some of the jokes and explanations didn’t really land for me the way they were intended to. I also felt like there were still a lot of questions left unanswered. What happened to the author’s relationship with her sons? What about Sue and her kids? Who was the phone stalker? Just a few things that would have been nice to get closure on at the end of the memoir. Overall an interesting read, but the execution could have been improved.
