4.5 stars. This was an excellent read. I haven't been this emotionally invested in a story for a while.

I haven’t read a lot of Muslim-oriented stories and I’m shocked on my own lacking. I enjoy when an author tries to incorporate real life ideas and pushed the reader to try and learn to later apply in real life. Lots of amazing Arabic terms I had to look up to understand the context.
My only issue with this story was the ending and lack of development of the main issueof the shooter. . The issue itself is crucial to what the story is about but it felt unfinished or lack additional clarification. Other than that at, good story overall.
My only issue with this story was the ending and lack of development of the main issue

this book was a beautiful story of resilience, faith and healing
afafs story is one full of sadness, she grew up feeling lost between her own palestinian culture and her american surroundings. her story is one that many children of immigrants face, she alone had to sheild her brother from the failing marriage of their parents, the loss of their sister, the grief of her mother, her fathers affair and alcoholism only to find the beauty of islam and find a family amongst the islamic community
